onfocus moodboard

I subscribe to a lot of visual blogs via RSS. It's probably around 100 feeds that are mostly at tumblr, some indie blogs, some mastodon feeds, some subreddits, and various others like the fun MLTSHP community. I tend to view these via a masonry layout (like pinterest) I put together that talks with my feed reader via an API. From there I can mark posts as favorites and/or publish posts to a public feed for public reconsumption.

The process of going from favorite to published is a complex, multi-step gauntlet of curation that ensures any chosen image meets the high standards of the onfocus brand. (I click a button.)

So here's the current onfocus moodboard. The caption below each image is the title as found and links to the source of the image where I spotted it. There's a moodboard RSS feed if you're into that.

“Making surveillance tech interactive is a really good way of bringing attention to it,” Kolman told PCMag. “It's one thing to understand that cameras are everywhere but… I want to show how to live under these systems and how to resist them.”

Pitch work is basically when a director, writer, producer, or any combination of those get together with an artist and say, “We want to pitch to studios and we need imagery.” All of that has now been given to generative AI.
Fascinating interview with concept artist Karla Ortiz about the impact of generative AI on her industry.

"At minimum, Stable Diffusion’s ability to flood the market with an essentially unlimited number of infringing images will inflict permanent damage on the market for art and artists."
Describing image models as sophisticated collage tools takes some of the mystery out of AI and makes it clear work is being used without consent. This essay has a clear description of the diffusion process.

I'm so tired of hearing about crypto scams. This video takes the time to explain why that world of NFTs and crypto is such a wretched hive of scum and villainy. This explainer is well done and worth the time and I hope it can help our collective consciousness move on.
