Argh! Driving back from Yosemite the other day we were listening to some marginal radio stations. Since then I can't get Lady by Little River Band out of my head. It's driving me insane. Anytime there's a quiet moment in my head I hear a little, "Look around you, look up here. Take time to make time, make time to be there." Or worse, the chorus. I'm hoping this post will help. Anything stuck in your head at the moment? (Maybe I can have a mental battle of catchy tunes until they all destroy each other.)

The Milbrae Pancake House. Fleetwood Mac on the jukebox, ripe swell of S. Nicks busting into that third verse of Landslide, "time makes you bolder, even children get older." She belts out the song to the half empty dive, the cook watching, leaning on his elbows on the counter in between the kitchen and everywhere else.

We're having milkshakes. "I love this song," you say, and mean it.

"This place is like a truck stop for old people."

Maybe I heard you and I'm pretending I didn't. Maybe I wish we could talk and hear each other.
There is rumor of research that was on NPR months ago, sing the tune (not the words) to Girl from Ipanema. That is the mind tune. I could have used this to kill off 7 years of the I Dream of Jeanie theme song. I hope Lady is not stuck for 7 years.
For the past few days, I've had "Call It L___" and "That Boston Life" by Consonant running through my head. Insanely catchy music by Clint Conley, who used to be in the legendary Mission of Burma. But since you probably haven't heard Consonant, who just released their first album, you probably can't use this to replace the Little River Band.

Unfortunately, most of my other "cure songs" for removing bad music that sticks to the roof of my brain like peanut butter are equally obscure. The Clash's "Lost in the Supermarket" works pretty well.
Thanks for the suggestions. The battle between I Dream of Jeanie and Lady gave me a headache. They have now combined into one terrible endless loop. I've been listening to Bob Dylan all day. You'd think that would do it.
I have a friend who claims that everyone has a "brain cleansing" song. his was...something by Abba, I think...and another friend's is the Brady Bunch theme song. I haven't found mine yet. I hope you can find *yours*!
well, these days, the peanutbutterjellytime song I got from Meg's site is dueling with Pink's "don't let me get me" in my head.

Early Beatles songs are good for cleaning my brain.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.
